Bracelet finely chiselled with snakes in 14kt yellow gold, (hallmark : coquille Saint-Jacques) set with malachite, an emerald, weighing about 1.00 Ct, a turquoise, and quartz. amethystturquoise, and quartz.

Italian work of the 19th century.
Newer clasp.

Jewel called acrostic : the first letters of each stone form here the word "maesta": M for Malachia (malachite), A for Ametista (amethyst), E for Esmeraldo (emerald), S for pietra del Sole (meaning stone of the sun: most certainly the generic term of the time for semi-transparent stones with orange micro inclusions), T for Turchese (turquoise), A for Agata (most certainly the generic term of the time for any semi-transparent stone in these pale shades).

Maesta means Majesty in Italian, and also refers to a representation of the Virgin and Child (in majesty).
It is therefore certainly a religious jewel.

Emerald certified as natural and of Colombian origin (Carat Gem Lab Paris certificate) with minor impregnation noted.

Gross weight: 17,00g
Length: 20.50 cm
Height: 1,00cm

Condition: very slight micro scratches on the gold parts, and wear and tear on the stones and the frame, see pictures.

The 19th century, which was very inventive in terms of jewellery, saw the birth of the fashion for acrostic jewellery where the initial of each stone was used to form a love or religious word, a date, the first name of a loved one, or that of a child.
