Antique silver brooch (hallmark: boar's head) representing a sword adorned with the Latin inscription "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" for "by this sign, you will conquer", surmounted by a white enameled fleur-de-lys, surrounded by blue enamel and three fine button pearls (diameter approx. 4.9 mm).

Pearls accompanied by a certificate from the LFG (Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie) specifying fine seawater pearls with no indication of treatment.

French work from the late 19th century, Neo-Gothic style, by the Parisian jeweler Victor Dudiez (poinçon de maître).

Condition: slight oxidation and micro-scratches on gold, silver, enamel and pearl parts, see photos.

 

The sword: a characteristic theme of neo-gothic jewelry 19th-century jewelry inspired by the Middle Ages.

In hoc signo vinces means "by this sign you will conquer". It's a famous Latin expression dating back to theRoman emperor Constantine: in 312, during the battle of the Milvian Bridge, he is said to have had a vision: this expression mysteriously appeared to him in the sky, accompanied by the chrism (six-pointed cross). The sign referred to in this expression is the chrism, a form of Christian cross.

Are the jewels of the Penelope Gallery guaranteed?

All our jewellery is guaranteed for a period of one year from the date on your invoice. We will repair free of charge any manufacturing or other defect, provided that this defect is not related to the use made by the customer, nor to natural wear.

Can I change the size of a Penelope Gallery ring?

For any purchase, Galerie Pénélope offers you the possibility to change the size of your ring up to 5 sizes bigger or smaller (subject to feasibility).
