Maintenance of your jewellery

Antique jewellery requires a minimum of care and order in its storage, we explain everything here :)!

NECKLACES AND BRACELETS

Who has never seen his necklaces and bracelets get tangled up, and despair of separating them? In order to avoid this, as well as the risk of breakage, we have three tips: store them separately, close them, and finally why not even hang them up.

EARRINGS

The risk here is to lose one, and then, oh despair, to end up with an earring orphan. It is of course fashionable to have only one earring and to mix pairs, but that is not the purpose here ;). We therefore suggest that you hang them up and check their fastening system regularly.

N.B.: be careful with scarves in winter!

THE RINGS

The rings are subject to friction and small blows which can damage both the stone and the metal. We advise you to separate them as little as possible, and not to put them all in the same dish so that they do not clash with each other.

For your travels, Galerie Pénélope suggests investing in a velvet case called "marmotte" which allows you to transport your precious jewels in complete safety thanks to its storage compartments which will not damage them.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY?

Your jewellery need to be cleaned regularly. To clean, use a very soft brush and soapy water, then rinse the piece with clean, warm water.

Take care to remove your jewellery before going to sleep, doing physical activity, or using corrosive products.Avoid contact with perfume, alcohol, cosmetics, ammonia, chlorine, ...

THE SERTI

If your jewellery has suffered a shock or blow, the setting of the stones may need to be checked. If in doubt, avoid wearing your jewellery until it has been examined by a jeweller.

You can also see this for yourself by shaking your jewellery lightly near your ear, if you hear a small noise you should take it to a professional. This also applies if your jewellery keeps getting caught on your clothes.

GEMSTONES

Some stones are more fragile than others, like opal, the pearl or emerald, turquoise, or malachite. They can scratch easily or react to certain products. They may also not like to be immersed in water or be in contact with absorbent material, such as cotton for opal.

For the latter, we advise you to entrust their maintenance to your jeweller.

AND PEARLS IN ALL THIS?

The beads do not like to be forgotten in a jewellery box, they can lose their shine. If you rarely wear them, don't hesitate to wear them at home from time to time so that they retain their natural beauty as long as possible.

Indeed, they like the contact of the skin, but attention, not that of the alcohol present in the perfumes, nor that of the cosmetics. As for water, it is better to avoid getting your pearls wet (avoid showering, bathing, or even swimming with them). To pamper them, simply rub them gently with a soft damp cloth.
