Rare antique Jeannette embossed 18 karat rose gold cross (quality mark: ram head) orned with faceted arms and engraved flowers on both sides.
French regional work of the early 19th Century (1819-1838).
Jeannettes crosses or crosses à la Jeannette have been worn all over France.
It seems that from 1783 onwards, Jeannette crosses were worn by all classes, then only by peasant women. After 1872 there was a fashion for city women to wear them as well, then this fashion passed, and once again the peasant women were the only ones to wear them...
