the three medallions are linked together by three chains.

Work of the 19th century, most likely French.

Length: 36,00 cm
Height of the pendant: 2,00 cm

Condition: slight micro-scratches, shock, and oxidation on the gold parts, and slight lack of enamel, see photos.

The "slave" necklace appeared in the mid-18th century. It was offered by the fiancé to his fiancée.

There are different theories concerning the term "slavery": for some, it originated in the Savoyard and Genevan tradition with reference to the expression "to chain the wife"; for others, it is a term used to describe a person who is not a slave. is not related to the notion of deprivation of liberty but rather to the sentimental attachment that binds the spouses together; and finally, others say that the abundance of chains that make up this necklace is enough to justify the appellation.

We'll let you judge for yourself ;)!
