Antique gold signet ring with horseshoe

Subscription - • Save

Yellow and green gold ring 18kt (hallmark: horse head) decorated in its center with a horseshoe and an unengraved plate. Ring decorated with finely engraved motifs.

French Victorian work of the 19th century.

Gross weight: 3.52 g
Design height: 1.30 cm

Finger size: 58 (diameter 18.50 / US 8.40).

State : very little scratches on the gold parts, visible on the pictures.

Reputed for centuries to ward off evil spirits, the origins of the horseshoe as a good luck charm are still a bit murky.

A legend says that in 969 AD, Saint Dunstan, the patron saint of blacksmiths in the Catholic Church, had the courage to deceive the devil: the latter
the devil: the devil ordered shoes, not for his horses, but for his own hooves!

Not wanting to work for him, Saint Dunstan decided at the last moment to drive the shoes into his foot with all his might. The pain being unbearable for him, the devil promised never to stop in a house on whose wall a horseshoe would be hung.

And apparently it also works when you wear it around your finger ;)!
