The Explorer's Emerald, Part 1
Who can resist an emerald? Especially if it is a Colombian emerald whose natural purity has defied time ever since its discovery. Its magical green glow charms anyone who dares to look into it!
The first person bewitched by the emerald with its magical green glow was a Dutch treasure hunter from the late eighteenth century. Attracted by the promise of profit, Jan van der Molen set sail for the Guyana Plateau in the north-east of South America.
Believing that he would easily make a place for himself in the mining business through his connections, his disappointment was all the greater in the face of the failure that hit him hard. While he was resigned to going back to the United Provinces, an unexpected meeting dissuaded him from doing so.
Jan van der Molen learned that there was an extraordinary mining region in Colombia. Its subsoils were known to be full of precious stones with a unique character. Its emeralds were unparalleled. Probably the most beautiful in the world. Green treasures blessed by the gods of the muisca people.
In his search for an elsewhere synonymous with surpassing, creating and reinventing, Jan van der Molen had the impression that he was on the path to the most important expedition of his life. The huge Andean mountains held out the promise of a glittering treasure.
